A backyard open-air cinema is a fun and unique addition to any backyard party that is sure to impress. Our mobile outdoor movie theatre can be set up in your location, indoors (providing you have the space required) or outdoors.

With our giant screen, professional projector and speaker our backyard cinema kit has been carefully designed to be compact, affordable and easy to use while still providing excellent picture quality and sound.

Not only is it simple to use, but our outdoor cinema set up is extremely versatile. We have adapters to connect computers, phones, iPads, laptops and even gaming consoles.

We offer two backyard inflatable cinema packages.

Take advantage of our DIY set up with quick and easy systems or leave the set up to one of our attendants while you sit back and relax.

Both packages come with our full outdoor cinema set up including:

  • A 4.5m (wide) x 3.2m (high) inflatable screen with an electric blower and takes less than 2-minutes to inflate
  • Digital HD projector with excellent image quality

  • All required video and audio cables – labelled and easy to identify

DIY Outdoor Cinema Hire

After booking your DIY Outdoor Cinema Hire package with us you’ll pay a $200 security deposit to cover any accidental damage to the equipment. This will be refunded within 7 working days after your equipment is returned and tested.

For our DIY service, you simply pick all the equipment up from our West Wollongong office. We’ll spend time giving you a hands-on demonstration and go through the whole outdoor cinema set up, answer all of your questions and ask you to sign confirming all equipment is in working order.

Our DIY outdoor cinema system takes less than 20-mins to fully set up. The digital projector can connect to your laptop or game console.

All our equipment is thoroughly tested beforehand ensuring an easy and stress-free setup. We even provide you with a step-by-step instructional video to make the whole process feel easy peasy.

This package is for a one-night hire. When you return the equipment we’ll go through everything with you and you’ll sign to confirm everything is in working order when returned. We’ll then refund your security deposit to you within 7 working days.

Full Service Outdoor Cinema Hire

After booking your Full-Service Outdoor Cinema Hire package with us you’ll pay a $200 security deposit to cover any accidental damage to the equipment. This will be refunded within 7 working days after your equipment is collected and tested.

For our full-service package, we’ll deliver the cinema to you and spend up to 40-mins setting everything up for you. We’ll spend time giving you a hands-on demonstration and go through the whole outdoor cinema set up, answer all of your questions and ask you to sign confirming all equipment is in working order.

We’ll connect the digital projector to your laptop or game console so it’s ready for you to use.

All our equipment is thoroughly tested beforehand ensuring easy and stress-free use.

This package is for a one-night hire. The following day we’ll come and collect the outdoor cinema. We’ll go through everything with you and you’ll sign to confirm everything is in working order when returned. We’ll then refund your security deposit to you within 7 working days.

While based in Wollongong NSW, we travel wherever movie lovers need us.

Illawarra Outdoor Cinema Hire

things to know

What you’ll need:

  • A movie of your choice – streamed or downloaded from your personal service (Netflix, Stan, iTunes, Disney+ etc)
  • Laptop, DVD player, phone, game console or iPad to play your chosen movie (we’ll supply the right cables to ensure you can connect to the projector and speaker)
  • Internet access, or a pre-downloaded movie
  • Access to power (we’ll bring an extension cord but will need a powerpoint)
  • A $200 deposit is payable after your booking has been confirmed, which will be refunded when the kit is returned in full without damage

Please note it needs to be dark for our projector to work effectively, we suggest using the outdoor cinema and inflatable screen after sunset.  Alternatively, you can set up the screen in a darkened indoor space providing you have the room required to inflate the screen.

PipeWolf Media provide the outdoor cinema set up, but you provide the movie, tv-show or access to a sports game – we take no responsibility for the content played on the system while it is hired out.

A license is not required to show movies or tv shows in a private setting, for example, your own backyard with a small gathering of people. If you are inviting the public, however, you will need to arrange a public screening license. This can be obtained by contacting the movie’s distributor.

Set up:

​For our inflatable screen, you will require a flat area that’s 5m wide, 3.5m high and 3m deep. The projector will need to sit approx 5m back from the screen so in total, you need a backyard or venue that’s a minimum of 5m wide and 8m long.

Please also ensure there are no overhanging obstructions such as tree branches.

Weather Conditions:

We offer a wet weather guarantee which means if the weather isn’t looking great on the day of your event, we can reschedule your booking, subject to availability, without loss of your payment. Please contact us at least 4-hours before your event booking time for us to reschedule for another available day.

*Note: cancellation policy applies if notified less than 4-hours before your event.

Cancellation Policy:

We require a 20% non-refundable booking deposit to secure your date and booking. The remaining 80% and your $200 security deposit are due 14 days prior to your outdoor cinema hire date.

Cancellation More Than 14 Days Prior To Event:

If you cancel your booking more than 14 days before your event you will only lose your deposit. Any other payments made will be refunded.

Cancellation Less Than 14 Days Prior To Event:

If you cancel within 14 days of your event there will be no refund provided however a credit note will be issued to be used within 12-months. If cancellation is due to weather conditions, we can reschedule your booking date but please let us know at least 4-hours before the event.

Cancellation Less Than 4-Hours Prior To Event:

If you cancel with less than 4-hours’ notice there will be no refund and your booking cannot be rescheduled.

How much space do I need to set up the outdoor cinema?

For our inflatable screen, you will require a flat area that’s 4.5m wide x 3.3m high x 2.2m deep. The project will need to sit approx 5m back from the screen so, in total, you need a backyard or venue that’s a minimum of 5m wide and 8m long.

Can I use it in an undercover area or indoors?

Yes, you can but please ensure you have the room. The screen is 4.5m wide and 3.2m high so you’ll want a ceiling clearance of at least 3.5m.

How large is the screen?

The actual screen size (the white part) is 4m diagonal.  The overall inflated screen dimensions are approximately 4.5m wide x 3.3m high x 2.2m deep.

How many people can comfortably view this screen?

We recommend this screen size for 20 – 80 adults.

How big does my car need to be to pick up?

The screen, projector and speaker can easily fit in the back of your car, the seats may require a station wagon or larger car with more room.

Is there a delivery fee?

If you purchase our Full-Service Outdoor Cinema Hire package we offer free drop off and pick up for all events within the Illawarra (Helensburgh to Kiama).

If you purchase our DIY Outdoor Cinema Hire package you can add delivery to anywhere in the Illawarra (Helensburgh to Kiama) for an extra $55 fee (an additional $55 for pick up).

If you are located outside the Illawarra there will be a travel fee – please contact us for a quote.

How long do I have the outdoor cinema for?

You’ll have the outdoor cinema overnight – hire is up to 24 hours.

Can I hire the outdoor cinema set up for more than 1 night?

Absolutely. We charge $220 (inc GST) for every extra night you’d like to add to your package.

Does it need to be dark to use the cinema package?

Yes – the equipment is designed to be used at night-time or in a dark room. We recommend starting your film just after sunset.

How long does setup take?

Up to 20 mins

How much power will I need?

A standard household powerpoint (240 volts) is all that is required but if power is not close by generators may be required and would need to be provided by the client.

What can I watch on the inflatable big screen?

Our outdoor cinema hire package is perfect for a range of special occasions and events such as backyard movie nights, kids’ parties, school fundraisers, watching live sport, hens nights, corporate events, weddings, birthdays, or even gaming on consoles such as PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox and much more!

Can I play a movie from a hard drive?

You can if you have a laptop which can be plugged into our projector. The laptop will need to be capable of connecting to the projector with the supplied connections. Contact us if you have more questions about how your laptop can connect with our projector.

Do you supply movies, shows or games?

No, we do not supply movies, shows or games. Our packages supply you with all the equipment you need for your outdoor cinema experience except movies, shows or games. You can connect your laptop or game console to our projector using our connections.

Do I require a licence to screen a movie?

You can hold a private screening on your own property without an additional licence, however, if you are unsure, we encourage you to check whether your particular screening requires a licence.  Any public screenings, whether free or ticketed, require a licence.

Do you provide movie licensing?

Unfortunately, we do not. If you plan on having a public event you will need to organise movie licensing for the film you’re planning to watch. You can find movie licensing options online here: https://www.screenrights.org/screen-audiences/get-permission/

Can we run a fundraising event using your outdoor cinema?

Yes! We love supporting our community and we are always happy to participate in fundraising events. Simply contact us and discuss your event and how we might be able to be a part of it. Keep in mind – you will be responsible for arranging all movie licensing for your event.

How do I book?

Contact us to confirm we’re available on your date and then simply fill out our online booking form. Next, we’ll send you a booking deposit invoice – once this is paid we’ll secure your date.

Do we need to pay a deposit?

Yes, we do require a 20% non-refundable booking deposit to secure your date and booking with us. The remaining 80% and security deposit is due 14-days before your event.

What payment methods are available?

You can pay our invoices via bank transfer, PayID or credit card by clicking the link in the invoice – please note there is a 1.75% processing fee for credit card payments.

If you would like to pay with cash please bring the correct amount as we don’t have change.

Do I have to pay for damage to the equipment?

Yes, when you book with us you will be required to pay a $200 security deposit to cover any damage that occurs during your hire. If damage exceeds $200 you will be invoiced the difference. Please refer to our Equipment Hire Agreement for more details.

Do your team have their Working With Children Checks?

Yes, everyone on our team has their Working With Children Checks.
