How To Upload A Video To YouTube
Have a video you’re ready to share with the world? Or just want to share it with a few people?
YouTube is a great, easy and free way to get your videos online – here are a few simple steps to get you started on uploading your videos to YouTube.
Please keep in mind these screenshots and instructions are based on uploading your videos from a computer but if you’re using a mobile device the steps will roughly be the same.
Step 1:
Head to https://www.youtube.com/ – you’ll notice the Sign In button on the top right of the home page. Click it to get started.
Step 2:
A login box will pop up asking you to sign in. You can login with your Google login and password. If you don’t have one you can create an account.
Step 3:
Once you’ve logged in you’ll notice a little camera icon on the top right of the screen. It looks like this: .
Step 4:
Click the camera icon and select Upload video from the drop down menu.
Step 5:
Before you start uploading your video you’ll need to choose which privacy setting for that particular video.
Every video can have it’s own privacy setting.
So what do they each mean?
A Private video can be viewed by you and you alone – you can’t share it with anyone. It’s 100% private and for your eyes only.
An Unlisted video can only be viewed by the people you send the URL link (video link) to – no link, no viewing. For the people who have the video link it will feel like a public video, and you can use the link to share the video online, on your website or social media – but the video isn’t public. It won’t appear on your public channel, on YouTube or Google searches.
A Public video is, you guessed it, public! It will pop up in searches, it’s there for the world to see.
Step 6:
Select the video you’d like to upload from your computer. You’ll need to know where the video is saved on your computer and use the prompts to navigate to that folder. Bonus Tip: you can also import a video from Google Photos.
Step 7:
Once you’ve selected your video it will automatically start to upload to YouTube. While it’s uploading you can edit both the basic information and the advanced settings of the video. In general the upload time required for each video will depend on the length of the video and your internet speed.
Step 7:
Once you’ve updated all the information on your video you can click Publish to finish uploading a public video to YouTube. If your video had a Private or Unlisted privacy setting you’ll see a Done button instead.
Keep in mind that your public video won’t be live until you’ve clicked Publish.
